The project "CESAREF" (Concerted European Actions on Sustainable Applications of Refractories) funded by the European Horizon Program starts in October. The Chair of Ceramics has found suitable candidates for its two PhD positions.

As part of the CESAREF project, refractory materials are optimized with regard to the new steel production conditions. These were initiated in order to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and thus achieve the EU's Green Deal. Adapted to the new process conditions of the steel industry, these refractory materials should enable higher energy efficiency and longer service lives.

Within the project, 15 PhD positions are advertised, which are aimed at individuals with a recent master's degree with a background in materials science and/or engineering.

The GHI offered the following two PhD topics:

PhD 04 - Use of metallurgical residues as potential raw materials for high performance refractory castables.

PhD 12 - Corrosion and changes of microstructure and thermal properties of refractory castables in H2 combustion atmospheres

The second application phase of the CESAREF project is currently underway. Applications are still open for the PhD 08 and PhD 13 positions.
