Tomasz Engelmann is decorated with the Otto-Junker-Award
On Wednesday, 09 November 2022 the annual award ceremony of the Otto Junker Award was scheduled. The Otto Junker Foundation awards this prize for outstanding academic achievements to graduates of the Faculty of Georesources and Materials Engineering - Materials Science and Materials Engineering Group - and the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology at RWTH Aachen University.
The Otto Junker Foundation was established by Dr.-Ing. E.h. Otto Junker as early as 1970. Otto Junker, himself an alumnus of RWTH Aachen University, was very interested in scientific exchange with his former university and the promotion of young scientists as well as numerous individual projects.
This year, too, the prize was presented to the winners in a festive ceremony in the auditorium of the RWTH's main building. Among this year's laureates was our current GHI colleague and former master student Tomasz Engelmann.
Tomasz Engelmann, born in April 1996, completed his school career at the Gymnasium am Wirteltor in Düren. He then studied materials engineering at RWTH Aachen University. Engelmann impressed with above-average scientific achievements during his studies and during his time as a master's student at the Chair of Glass and Glass Ceramics. His previous outstanding scientific work was already honored at the end of his bachelor's degree by the "Verein der Förderer des Instituts für Gesteinshüttenkunde an der TH Aachen e.V." with the Schwiete Prize for his bachelor's thesis.
Since January 2022, Tomasz Engelmann has been employed as a research associate at the Chair of Glass and Glass Ceramics at the Institute of Mineralogy (GHI) at RWTH Aachen University, where he is conducting research as part of a large-scale project on CO2 -free glass production funded by the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection (BMWK).
